New Zealand is totally setting things on fire lately. First the Flight of the Conchords, and now this? Pretty soon they’ll be the ones who FINALLY get me a hover car. And a bionic arm. Remember NZ, I asked first. This is me going on record.
Another night of working on my website. I think this is about the 5th day strait I’ve been photographing, editing, uploading, designing and feeling like bashing my head on my keyboard. And this isn’t even for Miss Tess, I’m catching up on Made by Tess so I can dedicate the next 6 weeks to working on that. Just a little bit more sewing, photographing and tweaking and I’m done. DONE I say. AHHHHH.
Anyway, to prevent myself from having a breakdown and going totally insane while I work I listen to Yelle. Not only is she cute, charming and bouncy she’s also French so no matter what she’s saying it sounds so totally interesting. These are my 2 favorite videos, the first is something else. And now for my favorite, “Je Veux Te Voir”, it’s probably the outfits. Definately the outfits. And I’m not being sarcastic.
While searching for this song I found another video which has subtitles! Reading more closely, it seems like this song is about chippendales, le filme pornography, accessories fetiches, and “Cuizi c’est tas position favorite, Tes performances Olympique, mai tu n’as rien d’orgasmique” which even if you don’t speak french (which I don’t) it seems pretty apparent what they are saying. There is also a line about Magic Johnson and something about “crunk slam dunks”. This is killer hilarious. And the best thing, it inspires teenagers to coat themselve in makeup and do web cam lip synch videos!
Okay back to work! And I think tomorrow I’m going to sport blue eyeshadow and red lipstick. I’m sure it will be incredibly flattering with my hair.

I’m busily working on products/design ideas for my new costuming site (hopefully up by mid June for Crafty Bastards). I love tutu’s quite a bit, and would love to offer various custom tutu options. My friend Alisa wanted to do a photoshoot, so of course I thought “what a great opportunity to make another tutu”. So I did. I’m very pleased with how it came out, and I have more materials to make a primary colored rainbow one
Even my dog likes it.
By the way, I got word today that my grant proposal for Firefly was approved. My submission was “DIY Costumefest 2008, holla” AKA “Sparkle Rainbow Pony Princess Fun Time Tutu Party”. The representative called me today and said, “We loved the idea of a bunch of adults running around in the forest in Tutus.” I like the idea, too, so I’m happy to throw countless hours into this to facilitate as many people in tutu’s as possible! If you are in the New England area, consider coming up! Firefly is awesome, full or fun people, small (500 peeps, so smallish) and it’s BEAUTIFUL in the woods! And you can make a tutu. Which is rad I have to say I’m amazed I got the grant. I wrote it after staying up for nearly 4 days strait, running around ROFLcon like a lunatic, sewing some more, dancing all night, then trying to rest before flying home. Let’s just say I was a basket case. I re-read the proposal today and it’s something else grammatically. No wonder they asked me to clarify a few things. . . xo!
M.I.A is adorable, her music is interesting, and she has fab style. I just saw this video for the first time and I was blown away!
I had a dream about it last night, I can’t remember the context but it was bizarre. I’m beginning to notice a trend. If I watch music videos at 4 am I will have a dream about it the next day. Go figure!
I have a bit of an obsession* with Asha Bholse, she is just amazing. This song in particular is great. Dum Maro Dum means “Take Another Toke”. I’m not condoning anything illegal, but you have to admit this is a pretty great video+beautiful song. I love the “HARE KRISHNA…” squeaky voices. I love Bollywood.
*Throughout this blog, you will find out that I’m obsessed with many things. I think I’ve watched this particular video about 25 times in the past week. Problem? Me? no.
As far as I’m concerned, Brad Neely is God. I first saw this video, then learned about “Wizard People, Dear Reader” which is pure genius, then found him on superdeluxe. More on those later, for now enjoy this. Brad Neely didn’t write the song, but he did the hilarious animations.
My friend Mandy shared this with me. I have had a big fat crush on Jean-Luc Picard/Patrick Stuart for a LONG time. In 11th grade English instead of paying attention in class, my friend Liz and I would take turns writing silly stories usually with Patrick Stuart as the male romantic lead. I think I’ve listened to this about 10 times, and it really becomes more enjoyable with each viewing. One of these days I want to project it onto a wall and watch it on loop for at least 1 hour. I’m a woman of simple pleasures.
